Indian Railways has started the test run of Chennai-Mysore Vande Bharat Express train ahead of flag departure on 11th November 2022. The test run has started from Chennai Central MG Ramachandran Railway Station. The Chennai-Mysore Vande Bharat Express train will be marked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 11, the first high-speed train of its kind built locally in the southern part of India. This will be the country’s fifth Vande Bharat semi-high-speed train. The first Vande Bharat Express train was scheduled on February 15, 2019 on the New Delhi-Kanpur-Allahabad-Varanasi route. The government has devoted significant efforts to strengthening the ‘Make in India’ campaign, and Vande Bharat Express is one of the success stories.
What is special about Vande Bharat Express?
Speed, safety and service are the hallmarks of this train. Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, a railway production unit, has been the force behind the system integration of these rails in just 18 months. The Vande Bharat Express can reach a maximum speed of 160 kmph and has travel classes like Shatabdi Train but with a better travel experience for the passengers.
This train is the next big thing for Indian Railways in terms of speed and convenience. You can achieve high speeds due to increased acceleration and deceleration and will reduce travel time by 25 to 45 percent.
For example, the scheduled journey between New Delhi and Varanasi will take approximately eight hours, making it 40-50 percent faster than the fastest train currently connecting these two cities.
Furthermore, all coaches are equipped with automatic doors; a GPS-based audiovisual passenger information system, Wi-Fi hotspot on board for entertainment purposes and very comfortable seats. Business class also has swivel chairs. All bathrooms are of the biovacuum type. The lighting is dual mode: diffused for general lighting and personal lighting for each seat.
The side reclining seat facility provided to business class passengers will now be available for all classes. Executive coaches have the added feature of 180-degree swivel seats. The train will also have biovacuum toilets with contactless services.
Each carriage has a pantry with facilities for serving hot meals and hot and cold drinks. The insulation is intended to keep heat and noise to very low levels for increased passenger comfort. Each Vande Bharat Express has a complete seating limit of 1,128 travelers.
security aspects
The Vande Bharat 2.0 trains have the KAVACH (Train Collision Prevention System) to improve safety in operations. Security will be enhanced with four emergency windows added to each car. There will be four side cameras on the platform, including rear-view cameras outside the coach instead of the previous two.
The new mentors have Level II wellbeing coordination affirmation for better train control. The Vande Bharat 2.0 will also have enhanced fire safety measures with an aerosol-based fire detection and suppression system in all electrical cubicles and bathrooms.
Superior flood protection for suspended electrical equipment will be installed to withstand flooding up to 650mm in height compared to 400mm previously. The train will also have four emergency lights in each car in case of power failure.
